“Careers Detectives is a great way to introduce children to future career prospects in a fun and interactive manner without asserting any gender bias. The use of Careers Detectives in schools will allow children to develop a clear and insightful view of potential careers and broaden their horizons on the amazing possibilities available to them according to their interests and skills sets.”
Women’s Engineering Society (WES)
“Career Detectives fills a massive gap in schools and fills it really well. We owe all of our young people a curriculum that prepares them for learning, life and work and we need to deliver that curriculum from the earliest stages. One of our problems is that we are short of materials for the primary stages to help us for the work aspect. Fortunately, Big Green Fox has ridden to the rescue with Career Detectives. This is an excellent resource by any standards, engaging, well-pitched and informative, but the fact that it offers support for the development of career management skills and employability skills for younger students make it worth its weight in gold”
Head of Career Management Skills, Skills Development Scotland
“The guys at Big Green Fox have figured out how to put the power of learning into young people’s hands. They offer an indispensable portfolio of resources that are brilliantly designed to support the delivery of employment-related skillsets and careers education for children in primary and secondary schools. Their innovative and accessible resources offer the perfect vehicle to connect children with the requirements of business and industry. I have no hesitation in personally recommending their resources as tools that will engage children with the world of work, and build their aspirations along the way.”
Sheffield LEP Board member, Cofounder and former CEO of PlusNet
“I am happy to recommend Career Detectives, which was demonstrated to me in a Year 6 class at a school where I am a chair of governors. The game met with enthusiasm from the children, who responded well to the tasks set and, although finding them challenging, enjoyed the vocal and timed aspects of the game. Very importantly, the children were genuinely interested in discussing potential careers after using the game.”
Simon Hughes MP
Minister for Access to Education
“Under the current government schools are increasingly being asked to take responsibility for the careers of their students. For some schools this is a new area and one which they are looking for help with. It is therefore great to see products like Career Detectives from Big Green Fox which provide a way to deliver careers education in the classroom in a fun and accessible way. What is really good about Career Detectives is the way that it helps teachers to link career learning to the core curriculum areas in a meaningful way.”
Professor Tristram Hooley
Professor of Careers Education, University of Derby
“Career Detectives is a vital resource to help with the successful delivery of careers education in primary and secondary schools. Engaging young people in their education, and encouraging them to make links between what they learn and possible future career paths is clearly one aspect of careers where schools and businesses can take a leading role.”
John Cridland CBE
Director General of the CBI
“We are delighted that Big Green Fox has pioneered a new approach to careers education that can be introduced in primary schools and beyond. Their games and resources offer young people a highly engaging route into accessing high impact careers education. Career Detectives is an excellent tool to help any educator deliver valuable careers lessons and serves as an ideal first step for young people into learning about the world of work, including the opportunities that are available and the knowledge, skills and experience they need to gain in order to fulfil their potential.
Their latest resource, Panjango, is designed to bring the educational curriculum to life and demonstrate the practical application of knowledge and skills in life after school. This pioneering interactive resource allows young people to explore a virtual world of work, learn about different career paths and the way the economy works, and collaborate in tackling a wide range of challenges which simulate those faced by professionals in their day to day job. This immersive experience will enable young people to develop a detailed understanding of the opportunities available for them to aspire to, the competencies essential for employment, and, crucially, the importance of education.
Big Green Fox’s use of gaming reinvigorates careers education for the 21st century and re-orientates the aims and purpose of the school syllabus towards the future world of work. This is precisely the type of intervention needed to bridge the current divide between the needs of businesses and the education agenda within schools. We wholeheartedly endorse the company’s approach and look forward to working with them in bringing about the changes that are needed in our education system.”

“Career Detectives is a colourful and intriguing board game that will delight and motivate pupils.”
Information Manager, CfBT Education Trust
“Careers Detectives is an outstanding resource for young people – helping them discover all about careers, the importance of the world of work and to better understand why they are attending school. Here at the Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre in Sheffield, we believe more young people should be introduced to careers education in primary schools. I believe Career Detectives can help to achieve these objectives in a highly effective and enjoyable way. The fact that the resource is based around a board game which develops team work and collaboration skills is even better!”
Rt Hon Richard Caborn
Strategic Advisor, AMRC and former Minister of Sport
“It would appear, in order to create the right motivational context for learning, that schools would want to make lessons more relevant for their pupils in the here and now. Educators should be equipped with the knowledge and tools to help shine a light into that foggy mist that is a child’s future career after school. It seems sensible that teachers would want to try to connect learning moments today with who and what their pupils might want to become in the future. Big Green Fox’s educational tools help educators meet this important and urgent need. They do this in an imaginative, engaging and stimulating way, highlighting numerous doorways behind which lie the opportunities for each of our children’s tomorrows. What they will eventually grow up to be… who knows? But, by using the Big Green Fox tools to enhance and enliven careers education, children will have been given the opportunity to better connect their skills and passions to their future career options. We wish Big Green Fox well in this important role in helping educators bring greater context and purpose to our children’s education.”

“Wigan Careers Service has used Career Detectives in Primary, Secondary and Special Schools and the response from pupils, teachers and careers advisers has been uniformly positive. The resource allows pupils to explore careers and the world of work in a fun, engaging and informative way and would be an ideal product to use with year 8 pupils to meet the new revised statutory guidance for schools on careers guidance.”
Team Leader – Wigan Careers Service
“We took the Career Detectives game to a local school where we run a reading and numbers scheme. We were really impressed, and so were the children who were so enthusiastic that every child chose to skip break to stay in and carry on playing. The children reacted really well to all the activities and some really got them thinking and talking about the different careers available, while also thinking about the skills and training needed for each.
The game is invaluable in getting children to think beyond the most obvious career paths – and the best thing is that they had great fun while playing and were left wanting more even after playing for over an hour. The career cards are really informative and interesting, and had a real impact on the children – we can really see how this will raise the aspirations of children, especially those who don’t see themselves pursuing the traditional career paths.”

It can help students to make the essential connections between what they are learning, what is on offer in the world of work, and the employability skills they need. It is useful in targeting transition between primary and secondary schools. It contributes towards raising aspiration, helping students to relate education and the world of work, and can help integrate Careers with Maths., English and Science.”

“Career Detectives is a great product – it’s inspirational, engaging and really challenges young people to think about their future. It’s so important that young people are exposed to the breadth of career opportunities available and encouraged to explore what interests and excites them. It’s just as important to focus on the skills they are learning and using every day; and how these skills will underpin their future progression and success. Career Detectives does all of this. As an organisation that brings employers in to the classroom, NYBEP specialises in delivering programmes that promote employability and careers education. Career Detectives is a hugely complimentary resource, good value for money and can be used by visiting employers to provide a structure and focus for their visit.”
Operations Manager – NYBEP Ltd
“It is important that we engage young learners as early as possible to the world of work and future careers. Career Detectives is a fantastic resource which raises awareness of career pathways in a range of skill sectors through innovate and interactive games. The Teachers Tips resource pack is a great addition as it recommends 30 additional games that can be adapted for class use from the resources available. Career Detectives has everything you need in preparing young learners to take that first step on the road to employment.”
Group Head of Partnerships, Grimsby Institute of Further & Higher Education
“We have found Career Detectives very thought provoking and it has encouraged our students to think outside the box. The game stimulates discussion, challenges attitudes and provides young people with a guide to pathways into work that they probably never knew existed. It ties things together in a creative, imaginative and fun way.”
Grant Bryce–Stephen, Access & Inclusion Manager
Yewlands Technology College
“Career Detectives is fun, educational, helps with career choices and keeps the players engaged throughout. All in all this is an excellent game which the students ask to play over and over again.
The students seem to really enjoy this game. It involves educational cards which they are not always keen on, but because a lot of them have three choices they can at least have a guess if they don’t know the answer. The yellow cards are all about careers and they have to guess the career from clues, the player has to read the career cards so they are learning about different careers all the time. The blue cards are the favourite, these involve the player having to mime a career, arrange the other players into the shape of a letter or put the players in alphabetically order of their name for example. It keeps all the players’ involved throughout the game, and they don’t get bored whilst waiting for their next turn.”
Teacher, Shuttleworth College
“At Birkdale our boys enjoy investigative challenges, so the ‘Career Detectives’ game is just perfect. I particularly like the way it’s adaptable to suit a variety of contexts, whether a small group activity or a specific lesson. This game is relevant to all children – whatever their academic ability – as they explore the world of work and many of the possibilities that are out there.”
Teacher, Birkdale Independent School
“Thank you for such a wonderful resource. I was given Careers Detective for our KS3 Nurture Group to try out and we have found it to be an exciting and interesting resource. Our Year 9’s particularly found it appealing and it has been used to discuss many careers that they hadn’t even considered or knew about. There is a great mixture of fun, kinaesthetic activities as well as challenging activities to keep everyone involved and interested. We’ve now purchased 3 for the school.”
Teacher, Shuttleworth College
“Career Detectives is an excellent resource which can be used by a range of staff and within a range of subject areas.”
Kath Taylor, Deputy Head Teacher
Heritage Park Community School
“Career Detectives is an excellent resource to use with looked after children and young people, including care leavers who have perhaps missed elements of statutory schooling. It is very engaging and lends itself to involving young people in learning and making choices about future plans. It also adds food for thought in terms of what could be available to them. Raising aspirations for LAC and care leavers is crucial if we are to increase their options in the future.
Career Detectives has exercises that support children and young people in improving their ability to participate in team work, to communicate effectively with others to achieve a common goal and, to be creative in ways that employers are looking for today. I would recommend this game to others working in social care.”
Service Manager Permanence & Throughcare – Sheffield City Council
“Career Detectives is a useful and exciting resource to enhance our current primary outreach programmes. It is is professionally produced and well-designed for enjoyable game play. We use it to raise awareness of the wide variety of careers that exist and stimulate further discussion led by university students about qualifications, higher education and training.”
Dr Sally Griffin
Widening Participation and Access Manager – Bath Spa University
“Career Detectives follows the essence of all successful board games in so much as offering opportunity to have fun but this game offers an underlying serious approach to engaging young people to really think about work, what their interests and abilities are most suited to and, most importantly, what subjects they need to be studying in order to make their aspirations reality.”
Ian McGregor Brown
HEART Manager - Leeds University
“There is simply no other educational resource out there that offers the kind of information and fun ways of learning that Career Detectives presents. When I first saw Career Detectives I couldn’t believe what an exciting resource this would be for our students, as well as the staff team, as we had been struggling to find a resource that could offer a cross curricula teaching of careers education from Y7 through to Y11.
Our students love using the resource and often request to take it home to play with family. They are excited by the board game element, which gets them away from a computer, bringing them together and promoting teamwork. As teachers, we love the fact there are so many lesson ideas offered in the Teachers Tips pack. The amount of learning that takes place using the resource is stunning and most importantly for us, it is showing students the link between education and the world of work.
Career Detectives was an absolute ‘must buy’ as soon as we saw it and I have no hesitation in recommending the resource to any learning environment.”
Pat Booth, Manager
Pitstop Youth Project
“I first spoke to Joseph about Career Detectives following a CBI Council meeting. I was delighted to purchase and support this great resource and present it to 10 local schools in the N E Lincolnshire area. Getting young people to think about and discuss their career ideas at an earlier age is hugely important if we want a generation of young people that are ready and able for the world of work.”
Philip Long, UK HR Business Partner & Director
Cristal Pigment UK Limited
“I am excited about Career Detectives with its revolutionary new approach to careers education. Introducing children to the world of work at an early age not only helps with making career choices later in life, but also demonstrates the purpose of education, broadens career aspirations and inspires children to aim higher. Career Detectives is an innovative resource that will undoubtedly help teachers in primary schools deliver career related learning and embed this topic across the curriculum.
The resource will allow children to start with a positive experience of careers education and be eager to explore the world of work further. The use of Career Detectives in schools will have a positive impact on children’s futures and will be of considerable value to the future of UK industry and the economy as a whole. This is the reason I support Careers Detectives developed by Big Green Fox.”
